Cranberry Cherry Breakfast Cookies

Image
Well it's been a long time since I've tried a new flavor of breakfast cookie... almost a year to be exact... but here it finally is. Another yummy treat perfect for a grab and go breakfast or a quick snack. Inspired from my earlier post  tropical breakfast cookie , here's a new flavor combination... Cranberry Cherry :) These oat cookies can be any flavor you like really... Just change the dried fruit and the cup of fruit puree. Start by mixing all the dry ingredients together Then add in your wet ingredients Mix to combine (looks much more normal now doesn't it?) Shape cookies And bake :) Cranberry Cherry Breakfast Cookies 1 1/2   Cup Oatmeal 1 Cup Unsweetened Shredded Coconut 1/4 Cup Flax Seed (fine milled) 1/2 tsp Sea Salt 3/4 Cup Almonds (chopped) 1/3      Cup    Dried Cranberries 1/3      Cup    Dried Cherries (chopped) 1         Cup    Strawb

Double Dessert Delight

I must admit, I've had those rice krispy treats stuck in my head for awhile now. When I think of desserts they sound good.. usually it's them or brownies that I think of first. Then cupcakes - but mostly brownies and rice krispy treats :) So why not combine the two? Take care of two cravings at once :) It sounded good so I figured it was worth a shot... if nothing else, I could always separate the two layers and eat them separately. I baked a box of Ghirardelli Ultimate Fudge Brownies (in a slightly larger pan than recommended so it tweaked the baking time just a little)... they're my favorite boxed brownie.  Then I added rice krispy treats on top. I also gave the rice krispy treats a little twist by making them coconut flavored. Then I put the chocolate from the brownie box on top. I think the chocolate may have been good in between the two layers too - and probably would've looked a little nicer as it was difficult to spread out correctly. However that was proba

Window Water Onions

Image
So I've seen this thing on Pinterest about regrowing green onions you get from the store... I've seen growing them in water or replanting... so of course, I had to try! And being that it's winter and, perhaps, even a little bit of laziness, I figured I'd try going them in my window and seeing how long I could actually "harvest" one bunch of green onions. Attempt one after about 2 weeks (you can see where I chopped the originals down to from the dried out parts on the outside)... sadly I didn't take a starting photo so that I could show the growth and timing... but I thought they grew pretty darn quick! I cut them down for a recipe and put them straight in a glass of water in my window... I didn't do anything to the roots. Every few days I would rinse out the roots and replace the water. After they grew so well, I trimmed them back down... This time I was curious if I should trim the roots or not. So I trimmed some, but not all, and put them b

Cocoa Krispy Treats

Image
So this Valentine's I totally fell for the make your own big KISS with Rice Krispies in a funnel... However, I thought, Hershey's Kisses are chocolate... so the big krispy one should be too right? So I got Cocoa Krispies and went for it... Afterwards though, it got me thinking - you can't really just change out Cocoa Krispies for regular... it just doesn't look as rich and chocolatey as I would like... So I decided to tweak the recipe and make the rest of the cereal into yummy, rich, chocolatey treats... First when I melted the butter, I added in some chocolate chips. Now, when mixing up the marshmallows - they'll be all chocolatey too :) Then all you do is add in your Krispies and pour into your pan and you're done! Simple and OOOOH SOOOOO GOOD!!! Comparatively, I think they look much richer than the KISS ones did...    Here's my recipe for some yummy, gooey, chocolatey Krispy Treats...  4

Empty Pantry Brownies

Image
Tonight I was craving something sweet, but didn't have any desserts just sitting around the house... and trust me, there's a reason for that... if it's here - we eat it, if it's not then we really have to want it to make it... and tonight, I really wanted it. So I grabbed a box of chocolate cake mix and figured I'd make brownies with it since brownies sounded better and I didn't have brownie mix. I dumped the box mix into a large bowl and went to grab the oil, just to remember I was out of that. No problem, I have shortening, I'll melt it and use that. Ok, next, the eggs... ooooh wait, out of those too. What was I thinking wanting to bake?! Well, the box was already open so I had to figure something out... Applesauce, no... bananas, no... yogurt, no... hmmmm, ok time to try something new - ground flax seed. I've heard it can be used in place of eggs and that I actually had in the pantry so it was worth a shot. All of a sudden my craving for something

Jalapeno Popper Inspired Yumminess

Image
There's just something about the jalapeno popper that is just too good. I can't explain it, but they're simply delish! Even when I didn't like eating the peppers themselves, I loved the poppers. Now mind you, I also believe just about anything deep fried is delish! I haven't found anything fried I haven't loved, but I say just about anything because I'm sure there is something out there that simply shouldn't be fried... but to date, I haven't found it... from veggies to twinkies - it's all fabulous when deep fried. But I digress... I think another reason I like poppers is the cream cheese. So I decided to set out to make a few jalapeno popper inspired meals. One I found online and took from the stove top and moved it to the crock-pot... one was inspired by different grilled cheeses I've heard of... one was a friend's idea... and one was a complete experiment... the last two are a result of the experiment and thinking of other things to
