My Friday Fix

Image
Today is going to be my #foodiefriday - it's the day the weekend begins and often when I can justify food splurges... I am trying to have a more regularly healthy diet, but you need a cheat day now and then... right?  Maybe that's just me but I love food way too much to not enjoy it :) Plus, my day started on a bit of a sour note - so the thought of vegging on the couch snacking sounds divine now that I'm home. Plus, what better way to spend a Foodie Friday other than talking about something yummy that you can enjoy over the weekend?  Unfortunately my morning migraine is now a dull headache, but that's not going to stop me. I wouldn't let it keep me from work... I wouldn't let it keep me from walking 5 miles or doing my 15 minute ab challenge... and it sure isn't going to keep me from food! It will however, keep me from getting over complicated... but sometimes a handy quick yummy recipe is the best!  There are a ton of simple snack recipes out ther...

Gluten Free Days 6 - 10

So I’ve been really bad at posting my gluten free journey lately. Needless to say life has been busy and I’ve not found much time to sit down and write. Sadly this also means I haven’t had much time to mess with photos either – but I do have some to share with you. This journey has been an interesting challenge. I cannot say I’ve noticed a huge physical change – nor felt all that different in all honesty. But I have learned to get more creative and think fresher – which, in the long run is really a better goal. I firmly believe that all things, in moderation, are ok as long as there’s not a allergy or health issue for you. I think it takes a bit to find the right balance and that it depends on your diet and lifestyle. There is no substitute for being healthy – and to me, that means putting good things in your body as well as working out to keep your body in shape. This is not to say that I do not enjoy to indulge in certain foods – I love to eat… I do not eat to live and I do not...

Gluten Free Day 5

Image
Almost one week down. One thing I have noticed about this is I have to think about things more - no lazy grab and go things unless I have made snacks or it's fruits and veggies. Really, I think overall I've been much healthier this week than normal. Which is something I'm trying to make a habit, so I think I'm on the right path :) Today started simple - just plain fruit. Strawberries, pineapple, grapes, and kiwi. I didn't add anything to them, honestly I didn't have time as I was running a bit late. Work brought in bagels (LOVE them) - they're really trying to temp me... first pizza and now bagels :) I stuck with my fruit and called it good. But I did eye several of them before giving up the thought of them. Lunch was also super simple. I had some cereal I purchased from the gluten free section. It's Nature's Path Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla... and may I say, it was YUMMY! It has corn, rice, flax, quinoa, buckwheat, and amaranth. I wasn't sure wh...

For ALL Celebrations

Image
If there is one thing that I think belongs at any celebration, well aside from sweets, it's deviled eggs. They are great at all holiday celebrations and enjoyed at any get together really. They're also easy - and very forgiving... you can do all sorts of different flavor combinations. Now yes, there are some that shouldn't be tried - but as a whole, there are a lot of options. Personally - I love them with a little bit of kick and that vinegar tang. So today I'm sharing my main go-to deviled egg recipe. Generally I do it by eye, so feel free to tweak the proportions of the ingredients if you like. This is simply the proportions I was feeling when I made them last. I like to slice them with a wavy knife - though you can do it with a flat one too. If you'd like a wavy knife, I just saw one at Bed Bath and Beyond for $2.99. I'm sure they are other places too, but honestly I've never seen them at the store before. Mine used to be my Mom's. I also like...
