Custom Canvas Fun

Image
In trying to figure out what to share - this week really isn't super different from last week... but it's a different method... again super simple (and who doesn't love that?!) and worth the share in my book. I promise I will branch out soon to share new things - but for now... I stick with canvas, only this time it's not painting per se... it's "painting" by printing (a bit of a stretch I know -- but you get where I'm going) :) So I decided to try those homemade canvas prints that are ALL over Pinterest... that said, I had read a few a while ago,  but you would've thought I'd go look again before trying... that would've been the smart thing... that's not what I did. I had things in my head from what I read and I just went with it. The good news is it was simple and even with the wrong type of print on my first attempt - it still kind of worked (admittedly not as well though). Below are my first two attempts - in order... you can ...

Gifts that Give Back

The holidays are nearing and I don't know about you - but with all the gift giving, I like to be able to  give and still make at least a little difference in the world. There are a ton of charities out there and a lot of neat sites that allow you to "donate a chicken" or "buy seeds" or something like that. But if you're feeling the need to buy something tangible for a person other than a donation in their name, there also are lots of sites that offer gifts that give back. This is what I chose to do for the daughter of a few friends of mine. You see, she's a very mature and thoughtful little girl - for her birthday this year, she asked everyone to make donations to a certain charity instead of getting her gifts. So what unique gift could I find for such a thoughtful little girl? Find something neat that also gives back :)   So I searched and searched and am happy to report I think I found a few things that she'll love. However, I figured it...

Quick, Cheap Crafts

Ok so it's been far too long since I've taken the time to write here... However, I've still been trying new things and taking photos along the way. So I'm going to stop and take the time to write a few down right now and then will get to writing about the others too. For today - I'm going to share a few simple crafty things I've done. So lets get right to it, shall we? First, I did a candy tray / dessert plate for a birthday. We always had a special birthday plate for birthday dinners so I wanted to give something similar to a friend. I've done the painting ceramics at stores and had them fire them and then go pick them up. It's always fun but the hardest part is always waiting to go pick it up. I didn't want anything near as complicated (I'm no artist) and I had heard of writing on dishes and putting them in the oven to make your designs permanent... so that's what I tried. Birthday Plate: Plate Sharpie Markers Rubbing Alcohol Pape...

Time to Relax

Know someone who is constantly on the go? Who never seems to slow down? That's my Mom! So for Mother's Day - I figured I'd do a 'RELAX' themed basket of bath goodies. I also wanted it to have a personal touch though - so I thought of things I could make to go in it. This post is about the Coconut Orange Salt Scrub that I made. It smells and feels great! The only thing I would change... the container I put it in... The labels I did with my Cricket - but I must admit, I couldn't get the letters perfectly lined up. This was probably partially my lack of patience... I suppose I could've used a ruler to keep it straight... but I kind of ended up liking my funky line up :) With the exception of the letters - this was super easy. So here's what you do (you can change the portions to fit your jar)... Start with one cup of kosher salt and add 2/3 cup of raw sugar. You can change the type of salt and sugar used so that you can have a finer or coarser scru...
