Amazing Blood Moon
Well, this week has been crazy already... how crazy? Well, I woke up Tuesday thinking it was Saturday for one (not a fun reality check) and then the day lasted roughly 19 - 20 hours before I made it to bed... and yes, still had to wake up and function today. Add that to forgotten work badge, then the badge not working, baking, new family member, etc - it has been rather non-stop... but in the best of ways! Sleep deprivation aside, today was a rather productive day. The week will be crazy for a bit longer, but every now an then - this crazy busy a blessing! It's fun and exciting and leaves me with great memories...
... this was a little bit ago now... but Sunday was the amazing blood moon that won't occur again until 2033! Did you get a chance to see it? I sat outside enjoying it for almost 2 hours!
Ok, apparently 'Blood Moon' isn't the proper term, but it is what it has become known as :) Technically it's a combination of a super moon (when the moon is closest to the earth and looks bigger) and a full lunar eclipse (when Earth's shadow blocks the moon). The moon appears reddish during this phenomenon, hence being described as the 'Blood Moon'.
I love the stars and the moon so getting a nice, clear night to get to experience it was very exciting for me! Sadly my parents and some friends were under cloud cover and unable to enjoy the amazingness. I wanted to be able to share the experience with them - but a camera phone (or any camera for that matter) shrinks the moon so much that it becomes like a bright star in a dark sky unless you have the right zoom lense... and sadly the amazing zoom lenses are not something I have (though they are on my 'someday' list!). So I did the next best thing (since I also do not have a telescope), I got out a scope and lined my camera phone with it and while the phone still shrunk it, I was able to zoom in and get a few good pictures. It was a fairly complicated way to get a semi decent picture, but it was better than anything else I could do. And, honestly, rather exciting as I was so happy to get something that I could actually share with my parents and friends that were under the clouds.
Like I said, they weren't incredible -- but for what they are, I think they came out pretty good :) 2 phones, 1 DSL, and a scope... plus a timed interval one aimed at the sky (which sadly needed the scope to have had any hope of capturing anything other than a bright little dot)... it was also interesting to see the difference in lining the other cameras up to the scope and how well they would (or wouldn't really) focus.
I went online and was AMAZED at some of the pictures!! Clearly a lot of great photographers out there!!
I used to have a telescope near, but sadly it's no longer at my disposal... so after this quirky way of trying to get pictures I really wanted to get one of my own... not only are there tons of options out there, but there are cameras that can attach to it and take pictures so I won't need to sit and line them up! Of course, there are better ones with those built in too, but just like I haven't been able to justify some of the zoom lenses I would like as it's just a fun hobby for me, I can't really justify a top of the line amazing telescope... I can however justify the $100 camera attachment :) And I WILL get some awesome pictures of the next one! And hopefully some pretty cool sky ones before then too :) I already enjoy taking pictures of nature and animals... But I would like to be able to capture images showing the beauty that we see before us! And I will, someday :)

like the crosshairs? I made a point to try to avoid lining the moon up center after that :)
Looks like cool other planets, but no - the two smaller dots are just reflections from the scope
Got rid of the reflections - but the moon is still crazy bright!
This is one I cropped, but absolutely love!
Another cropped version as the eclipse was ending
